The Abhiman Workers Union proudly joined the May Day walk this year, facilitated, and
organized by the National Union of Seafarers Sri Lanka (NUSS). In a modern world where the
inclusion and representation of LGBTIQA+ workers in the workforce continues to grow, the
Abhimana Workers Union is moving towards equality, respect, and acceptance at work.
Co-Chairs Bhoomi Harendran and Sakuni Mayadunna joined the walk, and active participation
from members of the LGBTQIA+ community was observed throughout the event.
Co-Chair Bhoomi Harendran spoke about the importance of inclusivity and equal opportunities
for LGBTQIA+ community members in the workplace. She emphasized the need for their voices
to be heard and for utmost support to be given for their mental and physical well-being, making
it a priority.
